EXCLUSIVE

NSW Police today arrested a Jet Ski rider and confiscated his watercraft after he attempted to evade police during a wild and dangerous display near Brighton Le Sands in Botany Bay this afternoon.

Footage on social media shows a NSW Police boat attempting to stop and speak with the rider of a Jet Ski after it was being ridden at high speed and in a dangerous manner near swimmers and other Jet Skis.

The footage shows the rider pretending he is unaware that police are trying to speak with him, however in parts of the video the Jet Ski rider is seen looking back at police while speeding away.

The NSW Police boat had its blue and red lights activated and the footage shows an officer repeatedly signalling the rider to stop.

The incident follows the installation of a Jet Ski Safety Camera in the area earlier this month, following a backlash from the local community about dangerous riders.

However it was multiple calls from the public who alerted police to the incident.

Many locals are calling for Jet Skis to be banned in this part of Botany Bay, and the actions of this rider will likely add weight to their argument.

The five-minute video clip – filmed by a bystander on the beach – ends soon after a second police boat arrives to assist.

Eventually the NSW Police vessels monitor the rogue Jet Ski rider from a safe distance rather than continue to pursue him.

He was then followed and arrested at the nearby Kyeemagh Boat Ramp about 4pm today.
