Jet Pilot Australia is still recalling a batch of kids safety vests sold from 2016 to 2018, after authorities determined the flotation material doesn’t provide enough buoyancy.
The Jet Pilot vests – part of the Cause Junior range for kids – were originally recalled in 2018.
However, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) reissued the recall bulletin in October 2020 after concerns leading into summer that not enough customers came forward for free replacements or a refund.
The updated recall notice on the ACCC website says certain types of Jet Pilot Cause Neo Junior life vests (sizes 3 to 4, 4 to 6, and 8 to 10, pictured above) “do not comply with the minimum buoyancy requirements of the Voluntary Australian Standard AS 4758.1:2015 for life jackets. The flotation material within the product provides insufficient buoyancy.”
The ACCC warns: “If a child wearing this life vest enters the water, the product may not provide the required flotation for the child to stay above the waterline. This can lead to the child suffering serious injury or death.”
Customers are advised to “immediately stop using the vest and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund”.
The ACCC has published a new in-store safety notice.
