2024 Yamaha WaveRunner prices and model changes

Prices for the 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner line-up have risen by up to $3100 in Australia – pushing all supercharged models past $30,000 and hitting record high RRPs for non-supercharged models. Here’s how they compare to Sea-Doo and Kawasaki Jet Ski.

The 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner line-up has been unveiled in the US overnight with new colour schemes, a new 200 horsepower, non-supercharged 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine – resetting the benchmark for the biggest capacity in the Jet Ski world – and sweeping price rises.

The prices rises in Australia – ranging from $1300 to $3100 – are higher than in the US, which has seen increases of between $200 and $400 across the 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner line-up (see tables at the bottom of this story).

Calculations by Watercraft Zone show while US prices for the 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner have increased by between 2 and 2.6 per cent compared to 2023 models, the RRPs in Australia have increased by between 10 and 19 per cent.

It means the prices for new Yamaha WaveRunners will hit record highs in Australia next year, with all supercharged models – such as the GP1800R SVHO and FX SVHO – to cost in excess of $30,000 before trailer and registration are added.

Popular non-supercharged Yamaha WaveRunners have also been hit with significant price rises – with some eclipsing the cost of some supercharged variants from just one year ago – with increases of between $1700 and $2800 across most models in the range.

All three supercharged Yamaha FX SVHO models now eclipse $30,000 – ranging from $32,599 to $33,799 excluding trailer and registration, which typically add between $2500 and $3000. Three years ago the Yamaha FX SVHO range cost from $24,799 to $25,999 in Australia.

The high-performance Yamaha GP1800R SVHO now tops $30,000 for the first time – from $30,699 in new black or blue colour schemes. Three years ago this model cost $22,499 in Australia.

Across nine out of the 14 models in the 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner line-up – including all four supercharged variants – the price rises are not accompanied by any extra equipment or performance.

As is normal practice in the Jet Ski and personal watercraft industry, most model-year updates in the Yamaha WaveRunner line-up are colour scheme changes for 2024 (following technical upgrades in recent years).

Only one model – the Yamaha SuperJet ‘stand-up’ Jet Ski, pictured below – received a price reduction of $400 in Australia.

Yamaha Australia’s national product manager for WaveRunner, Marty Kypr, told Watercraft Zone the price rises for the 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner series were driven by inflation and other economic pressures both here and overseas, as well as increased manufacturing costs.

We have maintained – and in some cases added – features to our 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner line-up, rather than delete any specifications, so we can continue to meet customer expectations and remain a technology leader in the personal watercraft market,” Mr Kypr told Watercraft Zone.

“We are also proud of the upgrades in particular to the Yamaha FX HO and other models which gain the personal watercraft industry’s first 1.9-litre four-cylinder – the largest capacity engine in the segment – which represents a significant investment in the future from Yamaha WaveRunner.”

The new non-supercharged 1.9-litre (1898cc) four-cylinder engine (click here for more technical details) replaces the non-supercharged 1.8-litre (1812cc) four-cylinder that has been a mainstay for Yamaha WaveRunner for the past 15 years (since 2008).

Four of the 14 models in the 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner line-up gain the new engine:

  • 2024 Yamaha VX HO Cruiser
  • 2024 Yamaha FX HO
  • 2024 Yamaha FX HO Cruiser
  • 2024 Yamaha GP19 HO (replaces GP1800R)

In addition to the new engine, the 2024 Yamaha FX HO series gains a new ‘top-loader’ intake grate for smoother acceleration and improved jet pump efficiency, as well as the 7-inch touchscreen (up from 5-inch) from the Yamaha FX SVHO.

The 2024 Yamaha GP19 HO gains the new ‘top-loader’ intake grate as well as auto trimming and launch control modes borrowed from the Yamaha GP1800R SVHO high-performance ski.

All supercharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder models – such as the Yamaha FX SVHO and Yamaha GP SVHO – carry over from last year but with new colour schemes.

A supercharged version of the new 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine is tipped to follow in 2025 at the earliest, though Yamaha for now remains tight-lipped about its future model plans.

The Yamaha EX, Yamaha JetBlaster and Yamaha VX model series also come in for new colour schemes for 2024.

Below is the price list for the 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner series in Australia.

The table after that shows how prices compare to similar models from Sea-Doo and Kawasaki Jet Ski in Australia.

It is worth noting the 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner RRPs outlined below compare to 2023 price lists for Sea-Doo and Kawasaki Jet Ski, which may also be impacted by price rises in the coming weeks and months.

Sea-Doo is due to announce its 2024 line-up – and prices – at 6:30pm US eastern time (UTC-4) on Sunday 20 August 2023.

By our calculations, that translates to 8:30am on Monday 21 August 2023 in Australia (eastern time) in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Kawasaki Jet Ski may revise its Australian price list later this year ahead of the arrival of its 2024 models, even though they are expected to carry over from 2023.

Prices listed below are the RRP for each model in Australian dollars including GST – but excluding costs such as trailer and registration, which typically add between $2500 and $3000 to the RRP, depending on trailer type and registration fees in each state.
