Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo has taken some time away from the race track to fill his need for speed on the water.
After debuting the limited-edition 2023 Sea-Doo RXP-X Apex RS300 in the US last year, Ricciardo is back on a ski – this time getting lessons from Sea-Doo racer and brand ambassador Anthony Radetic.
A video produced by Sea-Doo follows the two racers as they spend a day on the water near Los Angeles, taking in the sights of Santa Monica, Venice Beach and Marina Del Ray.
While Ricciardo has the reflexes, muscle strength, and stamina to handle a Formula One car at 300km/h, Radetic gives the race driver some tips on taking tighter turns on the water.
Radetic, who was paralysed in 2004 after a motorcycle crash, is a regular Sea-Doo racer and brand ambassador.
Although the footage was shot for fun rather than as an instructional video, it also provides rare glimpses of Ricciardo as a young go-kart racer.
While of course smiling for the cameras, the two speed demons appeared to bond in the short time they spent together.
There was just one possible point of contention, but it appeared to go unnoticed by Ricciardo and left unsaid by Radetic.
On Radetic’s brand ambassador page on the Sea-Doo website, he lists British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton as one of his idols.
“The one celebrity I think would be a great riding buddy would be Lewis Hamilton,” Radetic is quoted as saying on the Sea-Doo brand ambassador page. “Obviously he has no problem going fast.”
It is of course unlikely Ricciardo would have been miffed by this – the two F1 drivers are pals as well as veterans of the grid – and the comment is likely a hangover from when Lewis Hamilton was previously a Sea-Doo star.
In the meantime, check out the video below. There is some great footage – and it provides a relaxing insight into both racers.
