The all-new Yamaha JetBlaster is poised to take aim at the top-selling Sea-Doo Spark in what is shaping up to be a brilliant battle in the budget end of the Jet Ski market in Australia.
The two titans of the personal watercraft industry are about to get in a scrap over their smallest and most affordable models after Yamaha today announced its cheapest model – the new-generation JetBlaster – will undercut the price of the most affordable Sea-Doo Spark by almost $1000 in Australia.
The original Sea-Doo Spark reset the benchmark for Jet Ski affordability when it went on sale a decade ago priced from $6999 in Australia and $4999 in the US.
The heavily revamped, second-generation Sea-Doo Spark went on sale in the US late last year, and arrived in Australia in limited numbers in the second half of this year – ahead of a full-blown launch next year.
Yamaha has responded with an all-new model that borrows some of the Sea-Doo’s design cues and lightweight materials, such as Polytec plastic for the top deck.
While the JetBlaster name was most recently used by Yamaha for the performance version of its EX entry model – the badge now applies to the completely redesigned successor to the EX series.
There are now four Yamaha JetBlaster models sold in Australia (versus five in the US, which also gets a Limited edition) going up against four variants of the new Sea-Doo Spark series.
Yamaha Australia has fired the first shot in a price war, today announcing RRPs for the all-new JetBlaster series that will see it go head-to-head, dollar-for-dollar against the Sea-Doo Spark and Sea-Doo Spark Trixx.
The 2025 Yamaha JetBlaster will start below $10,000 – from $9999, ski only – in Australia.
For now, the cheapest version of the 2025 Sea-Doo Spark is listed at $11,899, ski only.
However, it is worth pointing out that both of these are base models and lack basics such as a reverse trigger.
As each model variant climbs the range, Sea-Doo starts to claw back some of its price advantage.
The most expensive Yamaha JetBlaster Pro is listed at $15,399 while the most expensive Sea-Doo Spark Trixx is listed at $14,699.
The main differences between the Yamaha and Sea-Doo models are engine capacity, engine power, fuel tank size, and glovebox storage.
The Yamaha JetBlaster has a bigger engine (1050cc versus 900cc for the Sea-Doo Spark) and outputs of 90hp and 110hp (versus 60hp and 90hp for the Sea-Doo Spark).
All Yamaha JetBlaster models come with a 50-litre fuel tank (versus a 30-litre fuel tank on all Sea-Doo Spark variants).
One big step forward for the new Yamaha JetBlaster Pro: it can now ride on its tail as vertically (and for as long) as the Sea-Doo Spark Trixx, after Yamaha made changes to the jet pump trim system, to allow it to pivot further.
