Sea-Doo has issued a second recall for more than 2000 examples of 2019 model-year GTX 230, GTX 300, RXT 230, RXT-X300, and Wake Pro 230 in Australia because the intake grate can detach at speed – which could “eject” the rider if the watercraft stops without warning.
This is the second recall for the same fault originally identified in July 2019.
“Consumers should avoid operating the (watercraft) at speeds in excess of 88km/h. All vehicles already inspected or repaired for previous intake grate recall need to be repaired again,” says the recall notice issued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
“Riding at speeds over 88km/h without an intake grate may cause unpredictable vehicle behaviour. This may lead to occupant ejection, increasing the risk of serious injuries or death.”
The recall applies to 2003 examples of 2019 model year Sea-Doo GTX 230, Sea-Doo GTX 300, Sea-Doo RXT 230, Sea-Doo RXT-X300, and Sea-Doo Wake Pro 230 sold in Australia between 1 August 2018 and 29 February 2020.
This is believed to be the majority – if not the entirety – of 2019 examples of these models distributed in Australia by Sea-Doo over this period of time.
Models manufactured after this date are believed to have been rectified. To check if your model has been repaired free of charge under the recall, Sea-Doo advises to contact your local dealer to confirm it has been fixed, or to book it in for repair.
The recall notice on the ACCC website can be found here.
Sea-Doo has not included a full list of affected models by serial number (or HIN) on this second recall, and instead advised owners to contact dealers to check if their watercraft is affected.
However, the original recall published in July 2019 included a list of serial numbers (or HINs) for 1863 affected watercraft in Australia.
