Safety recall: Sea-Doo GTI, GTR 230, Fish Pro Scout, and Wake 170

Sea-Doo Australia has issued a safety recall for more than 1800 examples of its most popular models sold over the past two years, including the Sea-Doo GTI, GTR 230, Fish Pro Scout, and Wake 170.

A safety recall has been issued for some of the most popular Sea-Doo models sold in Australia over the past two years – because the rear seat could fall off at speed.

The recall notice – issued by the government’s Product Safety division of Australia’s top consumer watchdog – has identified a combined total of 1815 examples of the entry-level Sea-Doo GTI series, Sea-Doo GTR 230 performance model, the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Scout, and the Sea-Doo Wake 170 edition.

The recall also affects rear seats sold as an accessory for the high-end performance model, the Sea-Doo RXP-X300 RS.

The affected models were sold by Sea-Doo dealers across Australia from August 2020 to August 2022.

This amounts to approximately 20 per cent of Sea-Doo watercraft sold locally over that period.

Owners of affected models are urged to take their Sea-Doo back to their dealer for a free inspection and/or repair.

Sea-Doo Australia declined to outline how many watercraft were affected, or if any incidents had been reported locally.

However, the ACCC’s Product Safety website provides a detailed VIN (or HIN) list of affected vessels (see link at the bottom of this story).

The recall notice says: “The passenger seat may unlatch from the watercraft. If the passenger seat unlatches during use, the passenger may unexpectedly fall into the water, this may cause an accident, leading to serious injury or death.”

The recall notice continued: “Consumers should stop using the passenger seat and contact an authorised Sea-Doo Dealer to make an appointment for an inspection of the product and if necessary, repair of the seat, free of charge.”
