Jet Ski fishing enthusiasts in Australia will soon have the choice of another ‘turn-key’ solution ready to go straight off the showroom floor.
Following the success of the Sea-Doo Fish Pro series – which now extends to three models: Scout, Sport and Trophy – Yamaha WaveRunner has unveiled its take on the Jet Ski fishing theme at this year’s Sydney Boat Show.
More than a decade in the making, Yamaha Australia has finally received backing from Japan and the US to introduce a Jet Ski decked out for fishing.
It is called the Yamaha FX HO JetFish and is intended as a rival to the Sea-Doo Fish Pro series.
While the special edition utilises a range of genuine Yamaha accessories unveiled in the US two years ago, the Yamaha FX HO JetFish will be sold in Australia and New Zealand as a complete package.
It is priced from $27,899 excluding trailer and registration – $3300 more than the $24,599 Yamaha FX HO WaveRunner on which it is based.
The $27,899 price for the Yamaha FX HO JetFish compares to $26,354 for the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Sport and $30,054 for the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Trophy. These Model Year 2023 prices exclude the cost of a trailer and registration.
The Yamaha FX HO JetFish is powered by a non-supercharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine; the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Sport and Trophy are powered by a non-supercharged 1630cc three-cylinder engine.
For now, Yamaha says there are no plans to make the JetFish kit available to other related models such as FX HO Cruiser with tiered seating, or the supercharged FX SVHO variants.
However, representatives for Yamaha Australia told Watercraft Zone they haven’t ruled out the possibility of expanding the JetFish range at a later date.
For now, the Yamaha FX HO JetFish is only available at three Yamaha WaveRunner dealers nationally: Gold Coast WaveRunners in Queensland, Sydney Watercraft Centre in NSW, and Diptech Performance in Victoria.
Rather than being a factory-built craft (as is the case with the Sea-Doo Fish Pro series), the JetFish kits will be assembled by each of the three Yamaha WaveRunner dealers.
The complete Yamaha FX HO JetFish kit includes:
- Garmin EchoMap UHD 65CV navigation unit and fish finder (with pre-loaded maps)
- Garmin GT24 UHD transducer (fish-finder, depth-finder, water temperature sensor)
- 45-litre Engel cooler box
- Measurements on the cooler box lid to check fish length
- Four fishing rod holders attached to cooler box
- Yamaha ‘RecDeck’ rear deck extension
- Retractable rear boarding ladder
- Unique JetFish decals (two per side)
The kit adds 50kg to the weight of the Yamaha FX HO, which means the maximum payload of JetFish-equipped models is reduced from 240kg to 190kg.
Yamaha Australia unveiled the 2023 Yamaha FX HO JetFish at this year’s Sydney Boat Show before rolling the model out to selected Yamaha WaveRunner dealerships in the coming months.
