2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300: World’s fastest-accelerating watercraft

The Sea-Doo RXP-X300 high-performance model has had its biggest update in nine years, due in Australia in December 2020 priced from $24,799.

The Sea-Doo RXP-X300 has had its biggest overhaul in nine years, with a completely new model that promises to be the world’s fastest-accelerating personal watercraft.

With a claimed 0 to 100kmh time of less than three seconds – in launch mode – the 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300 aims to be the quickest watercraft on sale today.

Top speed is expected to be line-ball with other supercharged Sea-Doo ‘RS’ de-restricted models sold in Australia – in excess of 120kmh – such as the Sea-Doo RXT-X RS 300 and Sea-Doo GTX 300 Limited, all of which are powered by the same supercharged 1630cc three-cylinder Rotax engine.

The previous generation Sea-Doo RXP-X300 had a claimed 0 to 100kmh time of 3.6 seconds.

The first shipments of the 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300 were originally due in Australian showrooms in November 2020, but freight and handling delays due to the coronavirus crisis pushed initial deliveries into December 2020.

The price for the 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300 is $24,799 not including trailer and registration (which typically adds $1500 to $2000). The RRP is an increase of $1600 compared to the 2020 model which cost from $23,199 not including trailer and registration.

The 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300 is powered by the same supercharged 1630cc three-cylinder Rotax engine with a claimed output of 300 horsepower as its predecessor.

However, the new model weighs 30kg less than the old model – for a claimed dry weight of 354kg – thanks to a new hull and deck design which Sea-Doo calls T3-R.

The “deep V hull” and new deck (elements of which are shared with the Sea-Doo GTI and GTR series) are made from acrylic-coated fibreglass that Sea-Doo calls CM-TEC.

It is the same material used on the flagship ST3 family of Sea-Doo watercraft including the Fish Pro, RXT-X300, and GTX Limited.

More affordable models in the Sea-Doo range are made from a plastic composite known as Polytec.

Sea-Doo claims the 2021 RXP-X300 is the most responsive hull on any watercraft to date, and promises an ideal blend of low-speed precision and high-speed stability in low-to-medium chop.

The 2021 RXP-X300 has ‘X-sponsons’ for tighter turns – and smooth chines as well as gills half way along the edge of the hull for better performance in unsettled water.

Given that the previous generation Sea-Doo RXP-X300 has race-winning credentials, the company is hopeful the new one will continue that legacy. Its closest rival in showrooms and on race courses is the Yamaha GP 1800R SVHO.

The 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300 is available in a purple and yellow colour scheme or a yellow-orange design.

Both colour options will be available in Australia, however the purple and yellow combination is a $300 option that takes the price to $25,099 not including trailer and registration.

In an industry-first, the 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300 is available as a one-seater or a three-seater.

The three-seat version of the 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300 is a $550 option.

The single-seater version has an adjustable rear cushion which tilts up for better rider grip.

The previous Sea-Doo RXP-X300 was a two-seater; the Yamaha GP1800R SVHO is a three-seater.

The top deck has an extra 40 litres in the nose to create a total of 143 litres of storage space (including a waterproof phone compartment). However, the steering retains telescopic-only handlebar adjustment (rather than tilt adjustment).

A 100-watt Bluetooth speaker system is available on this model for the first time, completing the rollout of audio accessories on all Sea-Doo models. It’s an option in the US but standard on Australian-delivered models.

A new rear deck has made way for Sea-Doo’s range of ‘Linq’ accessories – including a cooler box, soft storage bag and 15-litre fuel caddy.

The 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X300 now comes with the wide screen dash display from the Sea-Doo RXT-X300. Meanwhile, other 2021 Sea-Doo flagship models (such as the RXT-X300 and GTX 300 Limited) come with a new high-resolution 7.8-inch digital dash display that brings smartphone connectivity to the watercraft’s touchscreen.
